Editing Your Keymap
The Dinkey series supports live keymap editing — no reflashing required. ZMK Studio works wirelessly, Vial works over USB. Both let you remap keys, create layers, and configure your board in real time.
ZMK Studio (Wireless)
ZMK Studio is a browser-based keymap editor for wireless Dinkey builds. Connect via USB, make your changes, and disconnect — your keymap is saved to the keyboard.
Getting started
Connect your keyboard to your computer via USB
Open studio.zmk.dev in Chrome or Edge
Click Connect and select your keyboard from the list
Edit your keymap — changes apply immediately
Click Save when done — your keymap persists after disconnecting
Layers
Use the layer selector at the top of ZMK Studio to switch between layers. Assign a momentary layer key (MO) or toggle layer key (TO) to access additional layers from your base layer.
Dinkey 34
All 34 key positions are available in ZMK Studio. The two thumb keys per side appear at the bottom of each half.
Dinkey 32|30
All pinky positions are always live in ZMK Studio regardless of which switches are physically installed. Assign keys to the positions that match your build and leave the rest empty. Switching between 30 and 32-key configurations is as simple as installing or removing switches and updating those key slots — no reflash needed.
Vial (Wired)
Vial is a desktop application for live keymap editing on wired Dinkey builds. Remap keys, build combos, configure tap-dance, and set key overrides — all without reflashing.
Getting started
Flash Vial firmware to your keyboard— see Flashing Firmware if you haven't
Connect your keyboard via USB
Your keyboard will be detected automatically — you will see the Dinkey layout in the keymap editor
Click any key to reassign it — changes save instantly
Security unlock
The first time you open Vial with your Dinkey, you will be prompted to unlock the keyboard. Hold both keys simultaneously for a few seconds:
Dinkey 34: Q + P
Dinkey 32|30: T + Y
Layers
Use the layer buttons at the top of the Vial window to switch between layers. Up to 4 layers are available by default.
Dinkey 34
All 34 key positions are available in ZMK Studio. The two thumb keys per side appear at the bottom of each half.
Dinkey 32|30
All pinky positions are always shown and programmable in Vial regardless of which switches are physically installed. Set unused pinky positions to Transparent (▽) and assign keys to the positions that match your build. Switching between 30 and 32-key configurations is as simple as installing or removing switches and updating those slots in Vial.
Combos, Tap-Dance, and Key Overrides
Vial exposes the full QMK feature set through tabs at the top of the editor:
Combos — trigger a keycode by pressing two keys simultaneously
Tap Dance — assign different actions to a single key based on tap count
Key Overrides — remap key combinations globally
